Share the adventure

Give a little time and build #SkillsForLife

We’re looking for parents, friends, neighbours and members of our local community to join in the fun, share their sense of adventure, and help prepare young people for better futures.

There’s lots of ways you can get more involved with Scouts. We’re looking for help from adults who can lead our sections, or play a vital role behind the scenes.

The good news is you shape what you do and the time you have to give. Scouts happens when a lot of us give a little (and no, you don’t have to be a Scout or outdoors expert to volunteer).

We’re looking for:

Adults to join our Section teams (on any evening of the week)
Trustees (and members of our Group Executive Committee
Group Chair (chairperson of our Group Executive Committee)

Work with young people

We’re looking for extra pairs of hands to join the teams that lead our sections. The benefits go both ways, volunteering with young people is good for them, and it’s good for you.
You don’t need any experience, we’ll provide friendly support.
We’re happy to talk about flexible volunteering too!

Help behind the scenes

It takes a village to raise a child (and even more to run a scout group!). We’re looking for people to help make the group tick by supporting with administrative and training tasks.
If you could help to provide leadership and direction to the group, we’re also looking to recruit a Chairperson for our Executive Committee.

Help out with our sections

Volunteering’s not just about giving – it goes both ways. It improves your wellbeing, gives you skills for the future, and helps you make new friends (and memories).

We rely on volunteers like you playing their part to give young people the opportunities they need. All our activities are run by volunteers, many of which are parents themselves, and often have no prior experience of Scouting.

Try the four week challenge

Volunteer for just four weeks and be amazed at the difference you’ll make. Try-before-you-buy by helping us for a short period of time.

We offer first-class training and support.

We know that Scouting is not only about young people, but also about the development of our volunteers. To support Scout volunteers, we provide award winning training, consisting of core, role specific, and ongoing learning opportunities.

Help behind the scenes

The work that volunteers do behind the scenes is essential to support Scouting at the 28th.

We’re looking for adults to join our team, helping with administrative tasks that allows our leaders to deliver awesome programmes.
This could be co-ordinating our waiting lists, keeping our member’s personal information up-to-date, or even helping to organise the scouts’ award winning training scheme.

If you’re looking to make an impact, and can support us flexibly (a few hours each month), then please let us know.

Chair our executive committee

Scouting relies on strong leadership. So if you can motivate others, keep a cool head and balance a variety of views then you would be an ideal chairperson for the 28th. With experience of steering meetings to produce excellent decisions, you’ll be equally willing to speak your mind as encouraging others to express their views.
You will use your strong communication skills help to help team of committed adult volunteers who make up an Executive Committee arrive at a good decision that will benefit young people. Able to work as part of a team, you will also contribute the direction and development of the group.

No previous experience of Scouting is necessary. What’s more important is your own skills and experience as well as empathy with our mission and values. We will provide all appropriate training and ongoing support.

If this role interests you, please get in touch to find out more.

Interested? Let us know.
