Useful information for parents of young people in our group

Uniform

Wearing a uniform is comfy and practical. It means no one feels uncomfortable or left out and helps everyone feel part of the group. Our uniform consists of a sweatshirt that you can sew badges on and a purple & grey ‘neckie’ to represent the 28th. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, trousers or shorts.

Purchasing uniform

Uniform can be purchased at The Glasgow Scout Shop. If you’re not sure where to start, leaders can give you more information about what to buy. They may even know if someone is selling a uniform second hand. There are grants available to help you buy a uniform, ask your leader for more details.

What uniform do Beavers wear?

Beavers don’t need a uniform to join, but soon Beavers will start earning badges and need a place to put them! After a few weeks of being a Beaver, your leaders will tell you what you need.

The Beavers uniform consists of a blue sweatshirt with your badges sewn on and the 28th ‘neckie’ to represent our local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, navy blue trousers or shorts, if you’d like to.

Please ensure that all items of uniform (and jackets etc) are labelled with your child’s name.

For meetings outdoors, please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather conditions, including, where appropriate, a fleece top, a waterproof jacket with hood, waterproof trousers, hat, gloves and wellies or waterproof boots.

What uniform do Cubs wear?

Cub uniform consists of a green sweatshirt with your badges sewn on and the 28th ‘neckie’ to represent our local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, navy blue trousers or shorts, if you’d like to.

What uniform do Scouts wear?

Scouts wear a uniform during their weekly meetings and sometimes on trips away, depending on where they’re going and what they’re doing. Usually, this consists of a teal green shirt or blouse with their badges sewn on, which they pair with our 28th ‘neckie’.

Alongside their shirts, Scouts might wear a kilt or they might save their uniform bottoms to wear for special occasions like awards ceremonies and public events – choosing to wear something more casual with their shirt during the week. Optional accessories such as hats, hoodies, are also available.

What uniform do Explorers wear?

The best thing about Explorers is that they’re in the lead – whether it comes to what they want in the programme, where they want to go for camp, or what they wear each week.

Most of the time our Explorers are wearing comfortable clothing appropriate for the programme along with a 28th “neckie”.
When heading off to camp or on more formal occasions, Explorers wear their beige uniform shirt with their badges sewn on.
Our Explorers also tend to design and organise their own hoodies for casual wearing.

Online Scout Manager (OSM)

At the 28th, we use OSM to store information about young people and volunteers (such as contact details, medical information & badge progress). We ask parents to log in to OSM to sign up & pay for events and keep medical & contact information up-to-date. Some sections may share your child’s programme and badge progress via the parent portal too.
